So you've booked a massage, what's next?
Receiving massage work can be daunting especially if you’re new to it! Each massage therapist might do things a little different so it’s important to get to know the therapist and their process.

Some areas to consider are pre-massage, during the massage and post-massage. Whether you’re a seasoned massage client or are completely new to it, if you have questions at any point please just ask! You and the massage therapist are a team the moment you decide to come in for a massage so it’s important that you are informed every step of the way.

Below are some things that you can do to make the most of your massage and what to expect at your next session!
Before Your Massage
-
Complete your intake form online. It's important for your therapist to be aware of any special considerations such as allergies, injuries, areas you'd like focused on, etc. It's a great tool to help your massage therapist plan ahead so we can make the most of your massage time.
-
Drink lots of water! Our muscles and connective tissue LOVE water so it's good to stay hydrated!
-
Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
-
Eat a light meal.
During Your Massage
-
Please arrive 5-10 mins prior to your appointment start time; new clients please arrive 10-15 mins prior.
-
As soon as you arrive we will discuss your intake form, add-ons you might like, areas you’d like more focus on and we will form a game plan for your session.
-
We will go over the required draping for the session so that you are informed and can feel comfortable on the table.
-
I will step out of the room to allow for you to get undressed and on the table under the sheets. If you don’t feel comfortable removing clothing that’s okay! This is YOUR session and we will work together, your boundaries will 100% be respected. We can still massage over clothing!
-
Before entering the room, I will knock on the door and ask if it is okay to enter.
-
During the session if you need ANYTHING adjusted just let me know! This could be massage pressure, table temperature, adjustment of the face cradle or pillow under your knees/ankles, music, etc. Whatever it might be, please don’t hesitate to let me know; your comfort comes first!
-
Let yourself relax! Feel free to move if you need to or place your arms wherever they feel comfortable.
-
Feel free to fall asleep, or even snore, massage therapists’ take it as a compliment! If you’re still asleep at the end of the session you will be gently awoken to let you know the session has ended.
-
When the session is complete, feel free to take your time getting off of the table and getting dressed. When you are fully dressed and ready you may open the door.
-
After the massage we will then go over any findings from your session and discuss massage after care.
After Your Massage
-
Stay hydrated and continue to avoid caffeine and alcohol.
-
Allow your body to continue relaxing. Massage stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system response (rest and digest), so take advantage of this state and allow your body to continue resting.
-
Avoid strenuous activity. If you’d still like to workout after, try some light yoga or a walk!
-
Foam rolling and stretching are good options that can help extend your massage and keep muscles loose.
-
Schedule your next massage! Like anything, consistency is key. Avoid forgetting to schedule by doing so before you leave; this way you can keep up with routine bodywork and can avoid playing catch up at your next session.
